Good. Boards cupped with white spotting to upper board. Spine tips and corners frayed and worn through. First page with a large closed tear near the head affecting the headline, and edge chipping; text otherwise intact, with occasional creases. No cracks or loose pages; binding secure. On title page the words "Revised And" have been crossed out and partially erased. Bookseller label (Sacramento, California) tipped to rear pastedown.

Provenance: Front free endpaper bears the purple presentation stamp "Compliments of R.H. Orton, Adjutant General", with the ink ownership inscription H.S. Smith above it. Below, in a different hand: W.H. Pratt, with compliments of A.S. Smith, May 1st 1891 — documenting a two-step chain of gift from the compiler himself outward.
